Under normal running conditions, the EMQR would display an illuminated green LED, with power enabled to a load circuit, upon lack of tension on the spring loaded pulley and release spindle, internal contacts would change, the load circuit would be broken and the alarm circuit would be made, illuminating a red LED.

Similarly, if the red push button is depressed, the pulley and release spindle would be ejected from the EMQR, again changing the internal contacts, breaking the load circuit and making the alarm circuit.
