Electrolux headline sponsor for Taste of London

electroluxElectrolux will return to Taste of London this summer for the first time as the event’s headline sponsor.

The festival, which takes place at Regent’s Park 18th – 22nd June, is once again aiming to be the stand-out culinary event of the season with a line up of the UK’s favourite chefs and restaurants.

Electrolux‘s Michelin starred partner chef, Simon Hulstone and leading chef Francesco Mazzei will be cooking up culinary delights in the Electrolux feature areas: the Electrolux Taste Theatre will host an array of world class chefs and up and coming talent showcasing their culinary skills including Tom Kerridge, Monica Galetti, Rene Redzepi, Michel Roux Jnr while the hugely popular Electrolux Chefs’ Secrets returns this year, giving visitors the opportunity to get up close and personal with culinary legends in an interactive cooking demonstration whilst also getting hands on with the latest steam and induction technology.

A new feature from Electrolux for 2014 is Secret Ingredient, an experience that will expand the cooking capabilities of aspiring home cooks.  Secret Ingredient will give visitors an unforgettable sensory experience, says Electrolux, involving sound, smell, touch and taste using naturally sourced, matched seasonal ingredients. Visitors can find out the Electrolux star chef’s secret ingredient and will be encouraged to share theirs too; a favourite recipe handed down from generations or the best produce from their home town.

Electrolux Marketing Manager Vanessa Holloway says:

“As part of our EMEA contract with Taste Festivals we are delighted to elevate our position as headline sponsor of Taste of London. Taste Festivals offer us the perfect platform to engage on a much deeper and more emotional level with our core consumers; foodies who are seeking technology that can give them the freedom to experiment and create a host of inspirational recipes and new cooking methods.”

Government approved construction plans for the new £165m hospital in Cambridge

Papworth hospital, a specialist heart and lung hospital, will move from its current location outside Cambridge onto the Addenbrooke’s hospital site in the city.

New buildings and facilities will be constructed on the site of the Cambridge Bio-medical Campus to accommodate the relocated Papworth hospital.

Treasury approval for the project follows years of uncertainty over Papworth’s future. The existing buildings at Papworth are more than 75 years old, with some older than 150 years.

The new Papworth hospital is to be delivered by Skanska through a 30-year PFI deal.

Construction of the new facilities is projected to begin in 2015 and complete by 2017 to 2018. The plans for this project will be finalised over the coming months, with all funding subject to the usual final approvals.

Professor John Wallwork, chairman of Papworth Hospital and a former cardiac surgeon, said:

“For many years we have been convinced that the right place for this world class institution to provide high-quality services for patients with heart and lung conditions from across the country is on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. We now look forward to putting that vision into reality.”

Department of Energy and Climate Change Exhibitions – Renewable Heat Incentive

DECC1To help businesses, installers and consumers find out about the recently launched domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) will be attending a series of exhibitions this spring.

The domestic RHI scheme is for homeowners and private and social landlords who want to install renewable heating systems in their homes in England, Wales and Scotland.

It provides long term financial support for property owners who install renewable heating systems and marks a milestone in energy efficiency as it is the first time every building in the country is able to take advantage of financial incentives to install renewable heat technologies.

Property owners will receive quarterly payments for seven years to help cover the cost of installing a renewable heating system. The scheme applies to certain types of hot water and heating systems, including air source heat pumps, biomass boilers, ground source heat pumps and solar thermal systems.

At the events, attendees will also be able to find out how the domestic RHI and the Green Deal will work together to ensure that all participants benefit from having a smarter, warmer home.

DECC has already exhibited at Energy Now Expo, Ecobuild and the National Homebuilding & Renovating Show and will be attending another dozen events nationwide, including:

• May 7 and 8: Greenbuild Expo, Manchester Central
• May 17 and 18: Scottish Homebuilding & Renovating Show, SECC, Glasgow
• May 21 and 22: All Energy Expo, Aberdeen Exhibition Centre
• June 17, 18 and 19: Energy Environment Expo, ExCel, London
• June 26 and 27: Eco Technology Show, The Brighton Centre
• June 28 and 29: Southern Homebuilding & Renovating Show, Sandown Park, Surrey.

Pimlico Plumbers Increased Revenue

pimlicoplumbersPimlico Plumbers has reported an increase in revenues of around half a million pounds for the first quarter of 2014 as a result of securing a growing number of multi-trade projects.

The Central London-based company achieved sales of £5.25 million for the first three months of this year, an increase of £441,000 (nine per cent) on the same period in 2013.

These figures put Pimlico Plumbers’ total sales at £16.5 million for its current financial year, which ends on May 31, and on course to achieve a record turnover of £20 million for the first time.

The company, which employs 200 tradespeople and a support team of around 50 at its depot and contact centre in Lambeth, has attributed much of the growth in sales to an increase in customers in the capital using more than just one of its services on single projects.

In addition to its core plumbing, heating and drains divisions, Pimlico Plumbers also offers electrical services, joinery, roofing, building and renovations.

To meet demand, the company has expanded its eight-strong service team with the appointment of two additional specialist technical services managers to co-ordinate the increasing number of multi-trade jobs.

Charlie Mullins, CEO of Pimlico Plumbers, said:

“Significantly, these other services aren’t being used in isolation as London homeowners return to the type of pre-recession property projects such as new bathrooms and extensions.  Whereas in the past we’d be called in just to fit a boiler or a new shower, customers are increasingly using us for entire rooms and sometimes whole houses.

“Of course, after the financial disaster zone of the past few years, customers are still being careful with their money in this economy, but they will spend with confidence with companies they know and trust.  The hard work we’ve put in to broaden our services is paying off and putting us on course for another record year.”

Travis Perkins saves £5 million on waste disposal

tperkins

Travis Perkins Group has achieved impressive results from its Environmental Improvement Scheme with £5 million saved in waste disposal costs.

It follows the launch of its waste management solutions, which allow its customers to benefit from hassle-free and compliant material disposal.

The savings achieved by the Travis Perkins Group have been made by simple segregation of cardboard, plastic, timber, and other materials held at branches. As the Travis Perkins Group continues to achieve astounding results by recycling its own materials, it seemed the ideal time for its brand to offer an extensive range of waste services to customers.

John Leader, head of waste management solutions, said:

“Travis Perkins and the wider Group have an aspirational goal of zero waste to landfill, which we hope to achieve predominately through the segregation of materials. This not only helps the environment, but saves the Travis Perkins Group around £5 million per year with branches now recycling up to 85% of waste.

“We now feel a similar approach can benefit our customers. We have learnt a lot from our own process of improving waste management; it has helped us to understand the importance of a compliant supplier, the necessity to offer an extensive choice of solutions, and the value of being able to offer products such as the HIPPOBAG which makes it simple for customers to remove waste safely and compliantly.”

The Environment Improvement Scheme has seen all cardboard, from old packaging to advertising displays, collected from branches and sent for reprocessing. Confidential papers are even pulped and turned into pin boards which are then sold at Travis Perkins, saving the company £50,000 in shredding costs per annum. Even plastic pallet wrapping, banding, and bulk bags are recycled and reprocessed where possible.

With a network of over 600 branches nationwide, sourcing waste management solutions through Travis Perkins couldn’t be easier.
