DEWALT announces partnership with Help for Heroes

DEWALT has announced a new partnership with UK military charity, Help for Heroes, a charity formed to help those who have been wounded in Britain’s current conflict.

The manufacturer of industrial power tools will begin its new association by donating money from sales of an exclusive Help for Heroes branded promotional cordless kit, which will be launched later this year.

Richard Mallinson, head of marketing at DEWALT, said:

“We are extremely proud to be working in partnership with Help for Heroes, a charity that is well known, respected and incredibly popular with the UK public. Through this new relationship we are committed to helping the team raise funds to contribute towards the vital work that the charity delivers to support our brave service men, women and veterans. We have a host of new initiatives planned for the coming months to enable us to raise both money and awareness of Help for Heroes, including internal fundraising activities.”

Bryn Parry, CEO and Co-Founder of Help for Heroes, said:

“We are delighted to build this new partnership with DEWALT. The war may be over but the battles are only just beginning for those whose lives have changed in the service of our country, a fight that may last for the rest of their lives. We need to make sure that there’s a comprehensive level of support available to them and that it’s there for life. We are excited about the plans that DEWALT has in place, and look forward to the upcoming year ahead.”

Amazon deal gives green light to Principal Place construction

amazon1

Construction is aimed to start this month on the Principal Place development based in London, after an online retailer Amazon, agreed to move in on completion.

Principal Place is a £300m mixed-use development designed by Foster & Partners on Norton Folgate, between Liverpool Street and Shoreditch High Street stations. It comprises a 625,000 sq ft, 15-storey office building with an adjacent residential tower block.

Amazon has signed a deal with developer Brookfield Property Partners to take 431,000 sq ft of office space in 2017, following the development’s anticipated completion in 2016.

Brookfield took over the site in 2012 when it bought a portfolio of properties from Hammerson. Main contractor for the project is Brookfield Multiplex.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson said:

“Our city is the perfect home for top tech talent and I am very pleased that Amazon have confirmed their intention to create thousands of new jobs at a major new base in east London. We are proving time and again that we have the right places and people to support this vibrant sector.”

Martin Jepson, president and COO of Brookfield Property Partners’ European Office Division said:

“Over the last few years Brookfield has made a significant investment in London and this agreement with Amazon continues the momentum that Brookfield has generated in London. When combined with our adjoining residential tower which we are planning to start early in the New Year, Principal Place is destined to become the ‘go to’ link between the City and the media-tech sector in Hackney and Shoreditch. We are delighted to have signed a lease agreement with such a prestigious anchor tenant and we can now turn our attentions to moving the development forward.”

VitrA launches RIM-EX range

VitrA-launches-RIM-EXVitrA has launched RIM-EX; a new set of rimless WCs. VitrA’s RIM-EX launch follows the introduction last year of its first rimless WC for the M-Line range.

The company’s RIM-EX concept now makes it possible to pick a rimless WC from many of VitrA’s most popular ranges; Nest, Shift, T4 and M-Line (as before) from its Designer Collection; and S50 and Arkitekt from its Bathroom and Commercial Collection.

With these new additions, many bathrooms can now benefit from the superior hygiene and ease of cleaning experienced with a RIM-EX WC.

To eradicate the need for a rim the RIM-EX WCs employ a ceramic water distribution tool. This tool is fully removable so that cleaning can be easy and thorough.

The RIM-EX range retails as follows; RIM-EX Arkitekt WC from £175; RIM-EX S50 WC from £235;  RIM-EX M-Line WC from £309; RIM-EX Nest WC from £345; RIM-EX T4 WC from £348; RIM-EX Shift WC from £364 (all prices include VAT).

The RIM-EX M-Line WC is currently the only model available with VitrA Fresh; a tank which releases cleaning fluid with every flush.

APHC gives its support for Gas Safety Week

johnthompsonThe Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors (APHC) has agreed to give support to Gas Safety Week (September 15th-21st), and has done so for it’s fourth year.

The fourth annual Gas Safety Week will see the whole industry coming together to bring gas safety to the forefront of people’s minds. Dangerous gas work can kill, so it is vital that gas appliances are safety checked at least once a year.

If left unchecked, poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. In the last year alone, 343 people were injured and ten people died as a result of gas related incidents.

John Thompson, chief executive at APHC said:

“APHC is proposing some solutions to reduce incidents of faulty gas appliances and fatalities. A primary measure would be a mandatory annual MOT style check-up to make sure appliances are properly maintained, with potential faults detected prior to them becoming a silent killer.

“Secondly, it should be a mandatory requirement to have a CO detector installed when replacing a boiler in England and Wales. This requirement is already in place for solid fuels, and we recommend for it to be extended to cover all fuel types. These measures should also apply to all types of combustion appliances to reduce dangers to consumers across the board.

“APHC, along with other leading industry colleagues and led by Plumb Center, is lobbying for CO detectors to become mandatory wherever a carbon-burning appliance is installed. You can join the petition at: www.no-to-co.co.uk. Only around 15% of UK homes have CO alarms, yet every year over 4,000 people are admitted to hospital with CO poisoning.”

Wavin UK have announced a multi-million pound investment programme

wavinWavin, a manufacturing company of heating, plumbing, and drainage products, have announced a multi-million pound investment programme which will create two dedicated manufacturing facilities in Doncaster and Chippenham.

Wavin’s proposals follow a review of its manufacturing operations with the aim of ensuring that the company and its products continue to remain responsive and competitive.

The move will see the creation of a dedicated plumbing and heating manufacturing facility in Doncaster for the company’s Hep2O flexible plumbing brand, and an above and below ground plastic drainage manufacturing facility in Chippenham, focusing on its Wavin OSMA brand.

As part of the proposed restructure, the company’s extrusion facility in Brandon will be closed. The company’s Hep2O manufacturing will be focused at Doncaster and all above and below ground plastic manufacturing will be relocated to Chippenham. The proposed changes will see significant investment in the company’s facilities.

Brent Nicholls, managing director of Wavin for south west Europe, said:

“The planned changes to our manufacturing facilities in Doncaster and Chippenham will simplify our supply chain and improve the service offering to our customers. By simplifying and increasing the focus of our UK manufacturing network and supply chain, we will be aligned to the changing needs of our customers.

“By reducing our transportation and handling we will be able to reduce the carbon footprint of the business. Focused manufacturing will help drive innovation and improved customer service.”

Subject to employee consultation, the proposed development of the two dedicated manufacturing facilities in Doncaster and Chippenham will be completed in phases, with work due to commence in 2015 and completed by mid 2016.
