During May 2015, there were 14,392 new homes registered with the National House Building Council. That is a 9% increase on the 13,194 homes registered in the same month last year.

There were 11,162 private sector registrations in May 2015, up from 10,198 in May 2014. Public sector registrations also rose, reaching 3,230, up 8% from 2,996 last year.

For the rolling quarter March to May 2015, registrations increased by 15% compared to the same period last year to 43,987 (38,247 in 2014).

The private sector increased by 17% during this period (33,046 in 2015; 28,216 in 2014), with the public and affordable sector also up by 9% (10,941 in 2015; 10,031 in 2014).

NHBC chief executive Mike Quinton said:

“So far in 2015 we have seen new home registrations remain consistently ahead of 2014 levels, which is clearly encouraging news for the industry.

“There have also been signs that the public and affordable sector is continuing to improve while the uncertainty predicted by some around the period of the general election failed to materialise, with steady growth a constant feature throughout the year to date.”

Team Baxi Raises £3K for Marie Curie

baxi-marie-curie-1

Staff members from boiler manufacturer, Baxi, cycled a total of 600km overnight last Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7, to raise over £3,000 for nominated charity Marie Curie.

Following weeks of tough training, the geared-up team of ten joined over 3,000 others at London’s Lee Valley VeloPark to take part in the annual Nightrider fundraising event. Beginning their challenge at 11.30pm, each member cycled a 60km (approximately 40 miles) route through the city, starting and finishing at the VeloPark and taking in over 50 of the capital’s tourist sights.

The event is a major fundraiser for hundreds of great causes, including Marie Curie, which is Baxi’s corporate charity for 2015.

Danny Rayner, one of the riders, said:

“Baxi is dedicated to giving back to the community and to charity as much as we can. We chose to continue to support the Marie Curie charity this year as we wanted to help it in its mission to continue offering vital care and assistance to people living with a terminal illness and their families.

“The London Nightrider event was a fun, yet challenging way to raise essential funds while offering Baxi team members the opportunity to do something together outside of their normal work environment.

“The support from our sponsors has been phenomenal and has also helped us smash through our original fundraising target of £1,750, so we’d like to offer our thanks to everyone.”

schmidt-made-to-fit

Schmidt, one of Europe’s leading kitchen furniture manufacturers, is offering a new made-to-fit solution called, Perfect Fit.

Perfect Fit is a concept that fits a space down to the last millimetre at no extra cost. From floor-to-ceiling cabinets that make the most of a high ceiling to pull-out shelves with insert drawers, full height doors and bespoke units, every inch is utilised.

Almost all of the European kitchen furniture factories offer some form of range customization, often referred to as ‘specials’, and also often with a hefty price tag as well. With Schmidt however, there is no extra charge for the first three bespoke units.

Schmidt says its Perfect Fit solution offers custom-made design with bespoke elements to suit all budgets. Consumers can choose from one of the many kitchen collections available then, where applicable, Schmidt will manufacture additional units to suit the space, such as filling (to the millimetre) any narrow gaps at the end of a run.

And as there’s no extra charge for the first three bespoke units, careful kitchen planning can make Perfect Fit an affordable solution to creating a perfect fit.

Schmidt kitchens usually retail from around £7,300.
