Rotpunkt 2015 Design Options

new-rotpunkt-designFor 2015, Rotpunkt has announced its most extensive choice of kitchen design options yet. New door, interior cabinet and accent colours plus new design details and accessories expand the opportunities to create that individual, tailored look.

The new door colours with matching interior cabinets are Grey, White and Dark Real Oak and the soft, muted grey of Grigio. The addition of the Real Oaks responds to the growing trend for combining gloss or matt doors with a woodgrain synchronous pore textured finish to bring a warm, tactile feel into open-plan kitchens. Snow too is now available as an interior cabinet colour, taking the choice to 25.

Striking combinations are possible using the new accent colours of Linewood, Mustard, Copper, Atlantic and Beton for panels, plinths and handrails. For example, the concrete tones of Beton is said to work particularly well with the new Grigio door colour seen here combined with Grey Real Oak on the Zerox handleless kitchen.

New colours Teale and Steel bring bright, vivid green and blue into the design mix for the Luxio high gloss lacquer MDF door.

Two additional metal handrail profiles are the G78D with angular lines and chamfered edge and the Square profile. Also increasing the choice in contemporary design details are mirror plinths available up to 20 cm deep.

Remote control is now available for the range of integral adjustable (white to yellow) LED lighting, which includes handrail lights and lights where individual LED’s are not visible. A remote control app is being developed for introduction in the summer.

Completing the Rotpunkt offer for 2015 are Blum soft-stop door hinges and an undersink pullout waste segregation system.

Wolseley head office gets excellent BREEAM rating

wolsley-head-officeWolseley UK has achieved an excellent Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) rating for the building management of its head office, which features a biodiverse meadow to aid plant growth and nurture wildlife.

This was a debut BREEAM assesment for Wolseley UK, which is part of Wolseley, the specialist trade distributor of plumbing and heating products.

A variety of habitats occupy an outdoor space of approximately 3000m2, which links the Wolseley UK head office and national distribution centre (NDC) in Royal Leamington Spa (RLS). This includes a pond, woodpiles, trees and shrubs, bird boxes and bat boxes. The meadow has also been allowed to grow long to encourage ground nesting birds and voles and will be seeded in the new season with indigenous flowers.

BREEAM In-Use is a scheme to help building managers, investors, owners and occupiers reduce the running costs and improve the environmental performance of existing non-domestic buildings. It consists of a standard, user-friendly assessment methodology and an independent certification process that provides a clear and credible route-map to improving sustainability credentials of existing buildings.

In order to develop the Biodiversity Policy, an ecology survey was carried out by the site facilities team at Wolseley UK. The purpose of this was to describe and map the habitats on the site. The presence of any protected or notable species was then identified and recommendations were made for habitat enhancement where possible.

John Page, site facilities manager at Wolseley UK, said:

“There are many reasons why we wanted to achieve a BREEAM rating for our site, the main one being that it provides us with an industry standard to showcase our existing green credentials. We believe this standard provides a management tool to help keep delivering achievements.”

Over the past six years, Wolseley UK has implemented a number of initiatives on the RLS site as part of its corporate social responsibility such as; zero waste to direct landfill for the entire site and installing 8,000 solar panels on the roof of the NDC, reducing the dependency on grid electricity.

Wolseley UK’s biodiversity plan adheres to the Warwickshire Biodiversity Action Plan in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and Warwickshire Wildlife Trust.

John said:

“We are extremely pleased with our ‘excellent’ rating and have worked extremely hard to achieve it. Wolseley UK is committed to protecting and enhancing the built and natural environment of its operational locations and we will work to encourage our supply chain to support us in working to our Biodiversity Policy.”

Green Port awards £100 million build

green-portA joint venture of investment firm Graham, and building contractors Lagan Contruction group, have won a £100 million contract from Associated British Ports, for preparatory work at the Green Port Hull Site.

The Graham Lagan Construction Group Joint Venture will prepare the site at Hull’s Alexandra dock for Siemens, which will then begin construction of its own facilities.

The Graham Lagan work is expected to take approximately two years, with the site due to become fully operational by summer 2017.

Consulting engineers CH2M Hill have been appointed by ABP to oversee the work, supporting the JV with the delivery of the project.

The work includes infilling one third of Alexandra dock with 780,000 m3 of material and reclaiming 7.5ha of the river to create a new 650-metre quay wall, which will accommodate three offshore wind installation vessels.

It will also involve dredging a new berth pocket, completion of earthworks and surfacing, building internal access roads and service networks, building a new roll-on /roll-off ramp and demolition of some existing buildings.

ABP head of projects, Humber Simon Brett said:

“Based on the detailed tender evaluation process which considered design, programming and cost, the JV met all of the requirements and the bid was very impressive.

“We are confident that the Graham Lagan Construction Group JV will deliver what we ask of them and we know they’ll carry that work out to the highest standard.”

Graham Lagan Construction Group JV project director Paul Scott said:

“This is a major opportunity for Graham Construction and Lagan Construction Group, and a project we as a joint venture are delighted to have secured.”

The entire Siemens development will be spread across two sites comprising the Green Port Hull facility and a new rotor blade manufacturing base in nearby Paull in the East Riding.

Siemens is investing £160m across the two locations and ABP is investing a further £150m in the Green Port Hull development.
