Lincat Opus Combis chosen for WorldSkills London 2011

Lincat, the UK’s leading manufacturer of commercial catering equipment for cooking, holding and display, has been chosen to be an Official Supplier of the WorldSkills Cooking Competition 2011. As a result, 19 Lincat Opus OSC61 SelfCooking Centres and three Silverlink 600 electric salamander grills will be put through their paces by the world’s most talented young chefs, as they compete for the ultimate prize of a WorldSkills gold medal.

WorldSkills London 2011, the world’s largest skills event, will take place at ExCel London from 5-8 October. Over 1000 young people, from over 50 countries across the globe, will gather together to compete to be the best of the best in a wide range of vocational skills, from cooking and creative arts to IT and engineering. The reigning cooking gold medal holder is Adam Smith of the Ritz, London, who triumphed at the 2009 WorldSkills competition in Calgary.

“We’re delighted to become an Official Supplier of the WorldSkills Cooking Competition 2011. It’s a great vote of confidence in our products that they have been chosen for such a prestigious event”, said Nick McDonald, Marketing Director of Lincat. “It’s exciting that our equipment will be put through its paces by some of the world’s brightest young cooking talent, watched by the great and the good of the hospitality industry worldwide.

He added…

“It’s satisfying too that our equipment will, after the event, be supplied to further education colleges throughout the UK to create a positive, lasting legacy.”

The Opus SelfCooking Center is easier to use than any conventional combi steamer. Using a touch screen you simply select the food and how you want it cooked. The SelfCooking Center does the rest, automatically selecting the cooking mode, temperature time and humidity levels. It can, however, also be used in manual mode to allow chefs all the control and creativity they require.

Ventilation Division Restructure

It is widely known that since the early 90’s Powrmatic have manufactured a wide range of high quality natural and powered ventilators to complement our extensive range of heating products.

Despite the undoubtedly challenging economic climate, Powrmatic Ltd continues to commit to investment and growth and the current restructuring of the Ventilation Division is testament to this.

After many years at a leading brand in the industry, Phill Terry has been recently appointed as Powrmatic’s Business Development Manager for the Ventilation Division and is co-ordinating the restructuring and development of the ventilation business and deployment of a strategy for growth in the coming years.

Whilst in difficult times many companies seek to diversify into other areas or ‘bolt on’ complementary products or services, Powrmatic’s strategy is to focus on exactly what Powrmatic do best, but with a heavy emphasis on doing that better than before! Essentially, Powrmatic is an engineering business and Powrmatic’s unparalleled manufacturing capability is Powrmatic’s greatest asset and what clearly sets Powrmatic apart from other companies in the sector.

Recent years have seen much manufacturing of ventilation products moving overseas, particularly to Europe. Retaining manufacturing of all Powrmatic’s products direct in the UK means Powrmatic flue products can be provided to meet the most demanding project deadlines meaning the long lead times associated with bringing in product from overseas are avoided. In a highly competitive environment this gives Powrmatic’s customers in all sectors a huge benefit.

A key part of Powrmatic’s strategy is to further reduce manufacturing lead times by developing standard product variants and sizes and more sophisticated production planning techniques. Stuart Parris has recently been appointed as the Ventilation Division’s Project Engineer with responsibility for the operational side of the Ventilation business. Stuart brings a wealth of experience in the manufacturing and construction sectors.

Coupled with continued improvements to Powrmatic’s manufacturing processes, investment in new products is highly important and a full Research & Development programme is firmly underway headed up by the Division’s new Research & Development Engineer, Nigel James. Nigel has a strong technical background previous held consultancy positions and well as technical director of a leading specialist glazing contractor.
Several brand new ventilation products in development and will soon be launched, including a new range of powered environment extract fans, a smoke damper specifically developed for smoke shaft applications, new glazed casement ventilations and even a new glazed louvred ventilator ! Watch this space!

The Ventilation Division is fully supported by a highly experienced and enthusiastic field sales team with Sam Dare covering South England and Paul Welsh in Scotland. The team is soon to be strengthened by an additional Area Sales Manager in the North of England. Powrmatic’s sales team are able to offer free product application advice to Powrmatic‘s customers to ensure the best product is selected to meet the required budget, design and regulatory requirements.

In addition to the Powrmatic Sales Team, a UK wide network of approved specialist design and installation partners means Powrmatic’s customers are never far away from a Ventilation Expert fully backed with a range of Powrmatic products for a total ventilation solution, ensuring comfortable and safe conditions in the built environment.

The Ventilation Division’s dedicated offices are located at Powrmatic’s llminster manufacturing plant. The Division’s offices are supported by Kevin Hill and Vanessa Thorne. Kevin Hill has an un-paralleled knowledge of Powrmatic’s ventilation range and heads up the Division’s Drawing Office and Technical Department. Vanessa Thorne has recently joined the team as Business Co-ordinator.

Powrmatic are extremely proud that all Powrmatic’s ventilators are manufactured at our state-of-the-art facilities within the UK and are manufactured and tested to the highest standards in the industry.

Installing or Maintaining Condensing Boilers?

Install or service condensing gas boilers? CORGI "strongly recommends" you have relevant testing equipment and are competent in its use

Condensing boilers use air/gas valves and fans to reduce excess air in the boiler, lowering flue heat losses and raising boiler efficiency. If set incorrectly, the valve can supply fuel rich mixtures causing high Carbon Monoxide (CO) levels with potentially lethal consequences. CORGI Technical Bulletin 189 explains how air/gas valves work, how you must follow manufacturers’ instructions and use a calibrated analyser.

CORGI’s latest safety warning (June 2008) strongly recommends you use a Flue Gas Analyser to measure condensing boiler flue levels of CO2 and are competent in its use. Using a KANE analyser is quick, easy and solves this problem.

Condensing boiler manufacturers usually state required combustion levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in their instruction manual. If not, simply call them to find out. They may also ask for CO and CO/CO2 ratio levels, also easily done with a KANE analyser.

The KANE425 analyser is independently certified to BS EN50379, is easy to use and, after careful evaluation, is now used by CORGI inspectors. The new KANE455 analyser has the same advantages including certification to BS EN50379 and directly measures CO2 and CO with new 5 year life sensors, removing the problem of less reliable electrochemical Oxygen sensors normally found in analysers.

If boiler instructions require the air/gas valve to be checked or adjusted by measuring pressure, the very stable and accurate KANE3100 Manometer will perform this task – some valves are set at a differential pressure between 0 & -0.05 mbar, which most electronic manometers cannot measure accurately or with stability.

KANE analysers and KANE3100 Manometer also record test results with an optional KANEIRP printer. The KANE425 & KANE455 can "Bluetooth" test results and are the only analysers certified and approved for Cognito Mobile Service Management Software to transfer test results in real time by pressing one button.

KANE offers great deals if you have an analyser or manometer that doesn’t meet these requirements – Call us and see what you’ll save.

CORGI requires engineers to use annually certified instruments and all KANE analysers and KANE3100 Manometer come with calibration certificates issued in our ISO 9001 & 14000 approved factory.

The KANE Fixed Price Service Programme means you know exactly what it costs to service your KANE analyser or Manometer. KANE always returns its instruments carriage paid, with a 1 year warranty if under 5 years old.
