Mira – Trends

Climate change and the environment

You may not think water use contributes to climate change, but according to Waterwise the energy used to pump, treat and heat the water in the average family’s home produces the equivalent carbon of a return flight from London to New York or around 1.4tonnes CO2.
By conserving water you’ll also be helping to protect the wildlife that lives in rivers and wetlands. The more water used at home, the less there is available in rivers, lakes and wetlands, and as water levels fall, food for birds be lost and oxygen levels can become dangerously low for aquatic life.

Shower power – water saving solutions

Taking a quick shower instead of a bath is an effective way to save water in the bathroom, but you can take it a step further by installing the very latest in eco technology from Mira.

The Mira Eco Showerhead uses aeration technology that mixes water with tiny air bubbles to create an invigorating spray pattern you’d never think uses up to 75% less water than a standard shower head. Unlike many eco solutions it’s effortless to install – simply unscrew your existing head and replace.

Your choice of shower can also help save water; the Minilite Eco comes with a six or eight litre per minute flow as standard compared to the usual 12, saving thousands of litres over the year, without affecting performance. Similarly, the Mira Miniduo & Eco Showerhead saves up to 75% water and still delivers a great performance.

Waterwise is an independent not-for-profit UK NGO focused on decreasing water consumption in the UK by 2010.

The shabby but chic family bathroom

Creating a cosy inviting family bathroom can be so easy. Soft pale pink walls and ceilings will give the impression of both space and warmth. If you’re not adverse to a touch of DIY take a vintage Lloyd loom laundry basket or ottoman if you have the space, and paint the same colour as the walls.

Add your own personality by choosing a dramatic contrast fabric to upholster the top of your Lloyd loom basket/ottoman or even the blinds in the bathroom (easy with a staple gun). Add glamour with a vintage or vintage inspired chandelier, this combined with the classic Victorian style, chrome, fixed 21cm deluge head of the Mira Realm with Diverter has the luxury of a country house estate. The diverter which has a maximum temperature stop, provides flexibility and safety needed for a family bathroom without compromising on style.

To create more continuity and if you still have the paint brush out, paint the frame of any pictures and mirrors the same colour as the walls and ceiling. If you’re feeling super brave pick out a clashing colour from your contrast fabric and paint frames and other accessories. Should you feel extra creative take the scraps of fabric and some PVA glue and cover the frame of your mirror in a patchwork style.

Vintage modern; grown up streamline bathroom

A simple streamlined bathroom with classic styling will stand the test of time, its longevity is thanks to the enduring and ever-popular ingredients of black, white, chrome and mirror. Victorian interiors are notoriously fussy and cluttered with ornament, strip back the fuss and an elegant stylish skeleton is revealed.
Black and white bathroom floor tiles, popular in the 19th century, coupled with chrome bathroom fittings need little more ornament than a simple mirror. For an eclectic streamlined bathroom go for stark ‘studio white’ walls, a chequerboard floor and frameless 1930s mirrors hung on industrial chain. The classic chrome and elegant design of the Mira Montpellier shower compliments this look and is the perfect choice for those whowant to combine style with a relaxing showering experience. The large deluge head (available in 6”, 8” or 12”) and Victorian lever gives a period look to any bathroom. Add interest in the form of a Fornasettivase or urn. For a seriously dramatic boutique hotel feel, reverse to x-ray; paint walls charcoal black and install a hi-tech surround sound system!

Baxi offers 5-year warranty on its new range of boilers

Baxi is so confident of the reliability of its new range of boilers that it is offering a free 5-year warranty on every one installed until the end of the year. To qualify for the 5-year warranty, boilers must be registered on works, the Baxi business support scheme.

The top of the range Baxi Platinum Combi GA, Baxi Duo-tec Combi GA, the cupboard fit Baxi Neta-tec Combi GA and the Baxi Megaflo System Compact GA all come with the THINK combustion management system as standard, setting a new benchmark for reliability, ease of installation and energy savings.

Innovative Gas Adaptive Control means the boiler detects whether natural gas or LPG is used, then at the touch of a button it sets itself up and automatically maintains the correct air/gas ratio, the correct carbon dioxide and the correct carbon monoxide levels. This ensures a lifetime of optimum efficiency, meaning lower energy bills for the householder and fewer call-outs for the installer.

The boilers also feature exceptional modulation ranges. With an industry leading ratio of 1:10, the Platinum Combi is subject to 83% fewer ignitions than its previous model, and uses 10% less gas. This means the components experience much less wear and tear, which in turn means increased reliability, greater peace of mind and lower maintenance costs.

Providing warmth – that’s what we do. Creating efficient heating and hot water solutions is all we ever think about. And it’s the reason why we’re always one step ahead and able to produce products that meet all your needs.

Vaillant launches new air to water heat pump

08.07.2011: Vaillant, one of Europe’s leading heating technology manufacturers, has added to its renewable portfolio with the launch of its new geoTHERM air range of air to water heat pumps (AWHP), suitable for a wide range of applications in new build and refurbishment properties.

Available from July 2011, the geoTHERM air range will consist of three models – 7kW, 12kW and 15kW – each of which will provide maximum comfort and efficiency, combined with simple installation, smooth operation and advanced diagnostics.

The geoTHERM air products are the latest addition to Vaillant’s range of heat pumps, which already incorporates both air to air and ground source units. For more than ten years, Vaillant heat pump systems have been widely selected by both domestic and commercial customers across mainland Europe and have now been proven in the UK to deliver energy efficient heating as well as cooling across a variety of different applications.

The geoTHERM air range utilises advanced evaporation technology, as a high efficiency evaporator with an injection system significantly boosts the heat transfer process within the air to water heat pump, increasing the efficiency of the system.

As you would expect from Vaillant, the geoTHERM air has high efficiency ratings and utilises zero ozone depleting potential (ODP) refrigerants and it also generates temperatures of up to 60°C for domestic hot water, which is higher than many AWHPs available in the UK.

Every geoTHERM air AWHP is equipped with a self-diagnostic tool and intelligent control for optimisation of the heat pump. It comes as a complete and compact outdoor unit, with a sealed refrigerant circuit, which means that no refrigerant handling is necessary.

Vaillant has also employed its unique Piharmonic system in geoTHERM air range, ensuring that the heat pumps operate extremely quietly, and minimising system noise at key times of the day. The low noise element is achieved via a combination of a sound-insulated framing module and a vibration-absorbing base plate.

Dave Lacey, Commercial Director (UK & Ireland) comments: “Vaillant air to water heat pumps are extremely efficient products. In certain conditions the heat pumps are able to turn every 1kW of electrical energy into 4kW of heat for a property – that’s 400% energy efficiency. This allows the new geoTHERM air range to provide energy for space heating and hot water in more environmentally friendly manner than most conventional heating systems.”

The geoTHERM air AWHP comes with a comprehensive two-year parts and labour warranty supported by a market leading service department.
