For Gas Safety Week 2014, Gas Safe Register is looking for ‘Gas Safe Heroes’ – engineers who are passionate about gas safety and have helped to keep an individual, family or community gas safe.
Russell Kramer, chief executive of Gas Safe Register, said:
“One of the things we want to do this Gas Safety Week is shine a light on the good work of registered engineers. That’s why we’re looking to collect stories from engineers about how they’ve helped keep homes, families and communities safe.
“If you have a story about how you’ve gone ‘above and beyond’ – whether it’s helping to evacuate a home before a serious gas incident, putting right dodgy gas work that could have led to carbon monoxide poisoning or a gas explosion, or held neighbourhood events to raise awareness about gas safety issues – then we want to hear from you.”
Engineers can share their story with Gas Safe Register by visiting: www.gassaferegister.co.uk/hero – in doing so they can become a Gas Safe Hero. Heroes’ stories may appear on the Gas Safety Week website and could also be shared with the media.
Gas Safe Register is also looking for Gas Safe Heroes to join the Register in talking to the media about their experiences of unsafe gas work and help spread gas safety advice. Engineers who are interested in standing alongside the Register and speaking to the media can nominate themselves to be a spokesperson once they have shared their story.
Last year, 2,700 industry supporters pledged and got involved – distributing leaflets, holding promotions and telling customers about the week either face-to-face or over social media.
Russell adds:
“Gas Safety Week is about bringing gas safety to the forefront of people’s minds. So this year, I’m urging the nation’s engineers to join in – tell us your story, nominate yourself to be a spokesperson or pledge your support. It’s only through the whole industry uniting that we can hope to reach the 23 million UK gas consumers – encouraging them to always use registered engineers, to get appliances checked regularly and to sign up to the free annual gas safety check reminder service at: www.staygassafe.co.uk.”
